Human life is priceless. Because it is precious, everyone wants to live for many years. Regarding human life, Sadhguru says- 'Human life or physical body is only an external thing to you'. That is what you call life.

Your body is so clouded with thoughts, feelings, philosophy, religion and prejudice that this psychological drama completely covers the life process. That is why people believe in life to a great extent, but the thing to understand is that the life that people believe in is only a matter of their job, business, family, property and position and that is only an external thing. 'But the importance of human value cannot be underestimated.

Human life has been important in the overall development process of the world. Every country prioritizes building health and safe citizens. They spend a lot of money to save the lives of the people. However, nature has its own rules.

Man dies after birth. The government can protect its citizens only for a certain period of time, that is, human life can be protected only temporarily, not forever. Man dies after a certain time. This is the polar truth. There have been various interpretations and definitions of human death.

Satin (2015) calls death the end of human life, the end of life or the end of all human activities. The philosopher Rajneesh Osho says - ‘Death is the transfer of the soul from one body to another or a person is fully awakened in the universe.

It is a great journey but you cannot know it from the outside. ' He who knows death from within is not afraid of death. Osho says that death is an eternal lie, that is, there is no such thing as death in this world. Death is an eternal truth. Death is inevitable. You cannot escape death.

Birol, (2003) defines death on the basis of medical science as the irreversible cessation of the functions of the human heart and brain.

The results of past studies on why people are afraid of death should be examined. Jade Wu (2020) as a Clinical Health Psychologist in Physiology Today Online mentions that there are certain conditions that cause people to be afraid of death. Are removed.

According to a 2017 American Fear Survey conducted by Chapman University, 20.3 percent of Americans fear death. The study found that 18.3 percent of murders were committed by strangers and 11.6 percent by acquaintances.

Despite the eternal truth that death is real and all people must die after a certain period of time, they are afraid and are always trying to escape. Some people are more afraid and some less. It is also necessary to study why this situation occurs in the context of Nepali society.

The purpose of the study

Reviewing the reviews of various scholars and studies, death is true and it is the last part of human life. However, people are more afraid of this truth. In this context, what is the state of fear of death among Nepalis? It seems necessary to study that.

The main objectives of this study are about the relationship between Nepalis' personal characteristics and fear of death, health status and fear of death, educational level and fear of death, economic status and fear of death.

 Method of study

For the study, data was collected from 225 people from different walks of life, originally representing Nepali society and connected to social media. For that, a questionnaire with 10 questions was prepared and answers were collected.

The data for the survey was collected through a software called Survey Monkey. The data obtained in this way is analyzed using descriptive method.

Study results

The relationship between personal characteristics and the fear of death

Only 39 percent of those surveyed were under the age of 40. Of those, 61 percent were not scared to death, while 150 people over the age of 40, or 70 percent, were scared to death. This means that younger people have less fear and older people have more fear.

This relationship was found to be positive with each other. According to these results, a closer look at the Nepali society seems normal. If we take a closer look at the society, we find that most of the old people are scared of death.

The study found that women were more likely to die than men. The survey found that 186 men participated in the survey, with the highest number of men having less fear of death and the rest being more afraid of women. This seems normal from the perspective of Nepali society. This result can be assumed to be due to the patriarchal nature of this society.

The other side of the study, looking at marital status and fear of death, found that the number of unmarried people surveyed was small, but the majority of them had less fear of death but more fear among married people than unmarried people.

This may be due to advancing age and they may be more fearful than unmarried because they feel more responsible towards their family and society.

The relationship between the level of education and the fear of death

The study looked at the level of education a person has achieved and the fear of death. People with higher education were found to be more fearful than uneducated people.

Sixty-five percent of those with higher education were afraid of death, while only 40 percent of the uneducated were afraid. As a result, educated people in Nepal are more afraid of death than literate people.

The relationship between physical health and fear of death

Human health is an essential condition for a long life. According to a survey of 67% of healthy and unhealthy people who are more afraid of death, only 33% of healthy people have no fear of death.

"In order to develop a culture of taking death for granted in the society, one should develop a culture of celebrating death, trying to control life, acknowledging that death is natural, meditating, and reviewing the good and bad deeds done in the past."

Similarly, 69 percent of the unhealthy people are afraid of death and 31 percent are not afraid of death. This shows that unhealthy people are more afraid of death than healthy people.

Relation between occupation and fear of death

The study found that 56 percent of those involved in agriculture, 65 percent of those in employment, and 60 percent of those involved in trade and business had a fear of death. This shows that there is less fear among the people involved in agriculture, trade and industry than in the employment sector.

This suggests that people in the agricultural sector are less likely to be in fear than those in employment, due to a lack of awareness and those involved in industry may be more likely to receive health care in the event of illness.

Relation between financial status and fear of death

The study found that 58 percent of the lower class, 64 percent of the middle class and 80 percent of the upper class feared for their lives. This shows that people with better economic status are more afraid of death than lower class people.

Squeeze:

Looking at the totality of this study, people in Nepali society, especially older people, are more afraid than younger people. Similarly, women were more afraid than men.

It was found that married people had more fear than unmarried people. People with higher education were found to be more fearful than those who were only literate. Unhealthy people were more likely to die than healthy people. Similarly, those involved in agriculture, trade and industry were found to be less intimidated than those employed.

Lower class people seem to be less afraid of death than middle and upper class people, that is, people with better financial status are more afraid of death than those with weaker economic status.

The study found that those who feared death were more likely to be older, more affluent, married, unhealthy and educated. As a result, more people seem to be more concerned with society and feel more responsible.

Fear of losing one's knowledge, not being able to use one's wealth, not being able to use one's position, seems to make people more afraid than greed. At the same time, it was found that people are more vulnerable because they are weakened by factors such as society, family, property, position and prestige.

Therefore, in order to reduce the fear of death in human beings, the existing greed, lust and desire for pleasure should be reduced. For that, man must become a natural human being. We have to be convinced that man is in the same condition as at birth and even after death he cannot and will not get anything more than that. The society should be made to realize that the truth of death is all other lies.

In order to develop a culture of taking death for granted in the society, one should develop a culture of celebrating death, trying to control life, acknowledging that death is natural, meditating, and reviewing the good and bad deeds done in the past.

If this can be done, every person will take death easily and will also help in reducing the number of patients suffering from anxiety in the society.
